How to turn a Facebook video into text
You need a public video and a share link. You do not need an account on this site. The steps below match what the homepage tool does.
Get a URL Facebook will actually share
- Open the video on facebook.com or in the app.
- Use Share → Copy link. On a Reel, the three-dot menu also has Copy link.
- Paste it into a private browser window. If Facebook asks you to log in before playback, the video is not public enough for this tool.
Desktop Watch URLs, mobile m.facebook.com URLs, and fb.watch shorts usually work when the video is public. Trailing tracking parameters are fine; we send the full URL to the extractor.
Run the transcript
- Paste the link on the homepage.
- Set the spoken language if you know it. Auto-detect is acceptable, not ideal.
- If the video is longer than 15 minutes, pick the slice you care about.
- Start with Auto. Switch to Extract if you only want Facebook captions. Switch to AI if captions are missing or wrong.
What you can do with the text
Copy it into notes or a CMS. Download TXT for documents. If you need timed captions in an editor, use SRT. For a web player, use VTT. Read the Reels to SRT guide if you are captioning a short.
When it fails
The usual causes are a private post, a region-blocked Watch page, a live video that is still in progress, or a clip with no speech. We return the error the extractor gave us in plain language instead of a generic spinner. If you own the file, use Upload on the homepage and skip Facebook entirely.
