FAQ

Facebook transcript questions

How do I get a transcript of a Facebook video?

Copy the share link from a public Facebook video, Reel, or Watch post. Paste it into the box on this page, choose a language, and run Extract (captions) or AI (audio). You can copy the text or download TXT, SRT, or VTT.

Does this work with Facebook Reels?

Yes. Open the Reel, use Copy link, and paste it here. Reels, Watch videos, /videos/ posts, and fb.watch short links are all accepted when the video is public.

What is the difference between Extract and AI?

Extract pulls captions Facebook already generated. It is fast when those captions exist. AI downloads the audio for a 15-minute segment and transcribes speech. Auto tries Extract first, then AI.

Can I transcribe a private Facebook video?

No. Only public videos with a shareable URL work. Login walls, friends-only posts, and Messenger chats are out of scope. For chats, use Facebook’s own Download Your Information tool.

Is this Facebook video transcript tool free?

Yes. There is no signup and no paywall on the core tool. We rate-limit heavy AI use so the server stays available.

Which file formats can I download?

Plain text (TXT) for documents, SRT for video editors, and VTT for web players. All three are generated from the same timestamped transcript.

Do you store my videos?

Temporary processing files are deleted within two hours. We do not keep a public archive of transcripts. See the privacy policy for details.

This is not affiliated with Meta, right?

Correct. Facebook to Transcript is an independent tool. Meta, Facebook, and Instagram are trademarks of their owners.
